ABSENTEE VOTING INFORMATION Why would someone vote an absentee ballot? There are six reasons a person may vote an absentee ballot:
How do I apply for an absentee ballot to be mailed? The request must be in writing. The voter must reapply for a new ballot before each election. Written requests must be received in the County Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m. the Wednesday before any election. Your letter should contain the following information.
If you are voting absentee, your notarized* affidavit envelope with your voted ballot inside, must be returned to the County Clerk no later than 7:00 p.m. the day of election. The Election Authority may only accept absentee ballots delivered by mail, registered carrier, or personally returned by the voter. * The affidavit envelope does not have to be notarized for anyone requesting an absentee ballot because of illness or physical disability. May I vote an absentee ballot in person? You may vote an absentee ballot at the County Clerk’s Office. Such voting begins six weeks before an election and continues until 5:00 p.m. the day before election. May I have an absentee ballot sent to a relative? Yes. Applications for absentee ballots may be made for the applicant, in person, by his or her guardian or a relative within the second degree. What are the election office hours? Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. In addition, as required by law, the office is open for absentee voting on the Saturday before any election, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For additional information on Absentee Voting, call 573-473-5820.
